Brighter future for construction firm as it makes £100,000 savings on building materials

A Northern Ireland based construction company has saved in excess of £100,000 following a period of engagement with Specialist Cost Auditors.

Portview Construction in Belfast is a company specialising in retail fit-outs and office refurbishments in the public and private sectors all over the UK and Ireland.

The company’s Finance Director, Simon Campbell, believed there was an opportunity to save the company money so he met with Specialist Cost Auditors owner, John McGowan, to discuss different categories where expenditure was high.

As part of the company’s drive for quality and efficiency this proved to be a very worthwhile step.

As part of their initial meeting Mr McGowan demonstrated how the Specialist Cost Auditors ‘Value Improvement Programme’ would add value to the assessment of Portview Construction’s strategic and non-strategic expenditure.

Mr McGowan and his team then began an analysis of the expenditure on buildings materials, insurance and bank fees, existing suppliers while benchmarking pricing against industry standards.

A series of cost reduction exercises were carried out to establish the business costs in more in-depth detail. The team examined on-site data collection, analysis, benchmarking and tendering processes. The results achieved for Portview Construction were significant.
